Responsible Alcohol Merchant Awards (RAMA) - 2009

A recent youth survey reported that more than 60 percent of Santa Cruz County teens admitted that it was easy to obtain alcohol. For this reason, CURB is partnering with local alcohol retailers who actively discourage and limit youth access to alcoholic beverages. The Responsible Alcohol Merchant Awards (RAMA) is designed to honor businesses that have demonstrated a commitment to combating the growing problem of underage drinking in the community. These merchants are rewarded for proactively implementing employee-training programs and exemplary management policies to combat the sale of alcohol to people under-21.

Local residents and youth are invited to submit merchant nominations. All nominations are reviewed by youth in the Santa Cruz County Friday Night Live Partnership Programs, Together for Youth/Unidos Para Nuestros Jovenes, local law enforcement, and State Department of Alcohol Beverage Control. RAMA winners are awarded a Responsible Alcohol Merchant Award plaque, which can be posted in their storefronts along with large banners promoting their participation in the RAMA program.

Project CURB encourages consumers to support the 2009 RAMA winners by shopping at their stores.
